New website guides on carpet recycling
Carpet Recycling UK has launched a website to provide guidance on end of life recycling for carpets.
A special section for members gives regularly updated information about the ongoing research and development activities designed to maximise the recovery of valuable raw materials from carpets. Members can also stay abreast of legislative and other sustainability drivers within the fast changing recycling environment.
The website provides a reference section on carpet recycling activities worldwide plus potential drivers for recycling in the future. It also references the position of carpet recycling within the overall recycling plans for the UK.
The potential for carpet recycling in UK is huge with more than 400,000 tonnes per year being dumped in landfills currently. That is about the size of total waste from a city of half a million people.
Carpet Recycling UK has been set up to address the barriers to recycling carpets. It does not offer carpet recycling services directly, but tries to ensure that carpet recycling services will be offered across the UK as quickly as possible.
Carpet Recycling UK aims to stimulate end markets for carpet recyclate through technical research and promotion to key industrial sectors, encourage a competitive carpet recycling industry within which highest environmental value technologies are supported and expand the variety of collection channels and take-back logistics.
Carpet Recycling UK is a not-for-profit membership association. The founder members are the carpet manufacturers and suppliers that have taken the lead in coming together to make carpet recycling a reality. These businesses cover all sections of the carpet value chain and their foresight and commitment is acknowledged within this website www.carpetrecyclinguk.com
