Altro acquires distributor

Flooring manufacturer Altro has acquired Spanish company Scandess, its largest independent flooring distributor on the continent. Following a successful 19-year partnership with Scandess, Altro has acquired the company as part of its strategic objectives to double turnover within a five-year period. Over the past few years, the Spanish flooring industry has become a key market for Altro's strategic investment and Scandess' position as the largest independent distributor on the continent, has provided Altro with an ideal opportunity to grow its business. Altro has just launched a new range of Imprint and Suprema design-led safety flooring, which it is intending to introduce in Spain following the acquisition. "This acquisition strengthens further our already extremely successful working partnership," said Richard Kahn, chief executive for Altro. "Flooring sales to Altro's key market sectors of construction and transit are already strong in Spain and the acquisition provides us with a great opportunity to grow this sector and develop new opportunities with our design-led products." The acquisition of Scandess has created Altro's fifth European office. The company already has offices in Sweden, Belgium, Germany and Denmark.
